The willow is carefully woven onto a

1. Willow Salix Cordata Americana.
It is an annual plant which grows on plantations. Dry willow is soaked in water for few hours, then boiled in boilers by 2-3 hours at temperature above 100 degrees C. After cooling, the willow is peeled off the bark on manual debarkers. The drying process takes place on the fresh air, so that the willow gets a natural honey-brown colour.
2. Pine wood.
The bottom of coffins are made from pine wood joined together by wooden pegs. We use minimum glue of vegetable origin.
3. Hemp string.
We use hand woven, natural hemp string obtained from hemp plants.
4. Wood stain.
For your coloured coffins we use water-based wood stain.

Our willow coffins are woven with both stripped willow from Somerset , and barked willow, which we grow ourselves here in Scotland on our willow field. We weave around 2x1 douglas fir strips of wood for the base, and our load bearing handles are made from sisal rope, ,and willow toggles to attach the lid. Inside we hand stitch a calico liner which has a waterproof membrane on the back. All our caskets are made using locally sourced materials from the UK and Scotland and are woven with care in our workshop here in Morayshire.

Our willow caskets are made using both buff coloured willows from Somerset, and the barked willow, we grow ourselves here in Scotland. The 2x1 strips of wood is from local timber from Scotland, we use a 2 year willow rods for the toggles. All our coffins are handmade in our workshop here in Morayshire Scotland

Wicker coffins using UK grown willow on a solid hardwood base with a solid hardwood centrepiece in the lid. Our coffins can be woven with both stripped willow and willow with its bark on. Our load bearing handles are made with sisal rope, and we use cotton cord and handmade hazel toggles to attach the lid to the base. Inside we fit a calico and (if necessary) plastic liner with an organic hay-filled calico mattress and pillow. All our coffins are made using materials sourced from the UK and are woven with care in our workshop in Warwickshire.

Unique Product Features:

We design our willow coffins using different types of willow to create different effects. We use Welsh-grown Douglas fir in our solid wood bases and a range of solid hardwoods in the lid centrepiece (these are generally offcuts from other carpentry and joinery projects we're working on and are dependent on availability). We hand carve our wooden toggles from hazel grown in our hazelnut orchard and use hay from our farm to fill the calico mattress and pillow. All our coffins and liners are made in our workshop here on our organic family farm in Warwickshire.
